# Receiptor skill

Use this skill when an agent needs to operate inside Receiptor itself: real workspaces, real documents, real automations, and real bookkeeping state.

Receiptor is most useful when the task involves:

- receipt or invoice intake into a live workspace
- document search and retrieval across historical records
- categorization review and correction
- spend analysis, grouped totals, and export preparation
- workspace setup, integration readiness, and source monitoring
- automation-driven bookkeeping workflows

If the task is general bookkeeping doctrine rather than live Receiptor operations, also load the separate `bookkeeping` skill from `bookkeeping.md`.

## When to use

Reach for Receiptor when the user wants help with accountant-ready financial document work and the answer depends on:

- workspace-scoped bookkeeping context
- memories and historical corrections
- automations, routing logic, and workspace controls
- connected inboxes, integrations, and exports
- structured document or reporting data

Do not use Receiptor for generic OCR-only tasks when workspace context, bookkeeping state, or automations are not relevant.

## Access surfaces

Receiptor can be used through:

- the Receiptor product and developer APIs
- the Receiptor CLI (`@receiptor/cli`)
- the Receiptor MCP server at `https://mcp.receiptor.ai`
- bundled Receiptor skills for CLI and MCP-first clients

### CLI

The CLI is a thin client over the Receiptor capability API.

Built-in CLI behavior includes:

- API key authentication
- workspace context management
- approvals and execution flow
- capability discovery
- dynamic capability execution with `receiptor <resource> <action>`

Useful built-in commands include:

- `receiptor auth <api-key>`
- `receiptor workspace list`
- `receiptor workspace use <org-id>`
- `receiptor list`
- `receiptor skills list`
- `receiptor skills install`

### MCP

The MCP server exposes workspace-aware Receiptor workflows over Streamable HTTP with JSON-RPC 2.0.

Important MCP-native tools include:

- `get_server_info`
- `workspace_get_context`
- `workspace_switch`

Capability tools are generated dynamically from the backend registry, so the MCP tool surface stays aligned with the actual product capability set.

## Capabilities

- List accessible workspaces
- Inspect current workspace context
- Switch workspace context in CLI or MCP sessions
- Search documents in the current workspace
- Count documents and grouped totals
- Inspect integrations and monitored sources
- List saved views
- Retrieve export records and reporting history
- Upload receipts and invoices for processing
- Review categorization outcomes and bookkeeping edge cases
- Produce bookkeeping-ready spend outputs

## Built-in Receiptor skills

Receiptor ships with a focused operational skill layer for agents.

### `setup-readiness`

Use before an agent starts doing real work in a workspace.

Required inputs:

- authenticated account or API key
- target workspace

Checks:

- workspace access
- integration readiness
- source monitoring readiness
- export and automation readiness
- missing setup steps

### `receipt-intake`

Use when the task is to bring documents into Receiptor workflows or inspect what already landed there.

Required inputs:

- file path, file content, or incoming document source
- authenticated workspace context

Typical outputs:

- upload status
- extraction status
- structured document record when available
- searchable document context

### `categorization-review`

Use when a document needs review, correction, or bookkeeping cleanup.

Required inputs:

- document identifier or search query
- authenticated workspace context

Typical outputs:

- current categorization state
- related bookkeeping context
- corrected or review-ready decision path

### `spend-analysis`

Use when the task requires grouped totals, trends, reporting outputs, or export-oriented bookkeeping summaries.

Required inputs:

- workspace context
- optional filters such as merchant, date range, category, or source

Typical outputs:

- grouped totals
- spend summaries
- reporting-ready results

## Workflows

### Start operating in a workspace

1. Authenticate with a Receiptor account, API key, or MCP OAuth session.
2. List accessible workspaces.
3. Select the correct workspace.
4. Run `setup-readiness` before doing production work.

### Process a new financial document

1. Upload or locate the receipt or invoice.
2. Wait for asynchronous extraction when required.
3. Inspect structured fields and categorization.
4. Review or correct the bookkeeping result.

### Investigate spend

1. Search or filter documents in the current workspace.
2. Pull grouped totals or counts.
3. Check related integrations, views, or export history.
4. Return a bookkeeping-ready summary.

## Context

Receiptor gives agents more than tool access. It provides:

- memories and historical bookkeeping context
- prior corrections and decisions
- workspace state and saved views
- integrations and export history
- automations that shape how work should move

## Automations

Receiptor work can be governed by:

- automations
- reusable skills
- routing logic
- workspace permissions

More permission controls may be introduced over time.

## Relationship to `bookkeeping.md`

Receiptor and `bookkeeping.md` are complementary:

- Receiptor gives the agent live operational context, real documents, real integrations, and real execution surfaces through CLI and MCP.
- `bookkeeping.md` provides the broader open bookkeeping doctrine: receipt processing, categorization, reconciliation, month-end close, tax prep, and specialized tax workflows.

Use both when the job requires bookkeeping judgment plus live workspace execution.

## Constraints

- Most meaningful operations require an authenticated Receiptor account and workspace.
- Uploads and some extraction workflows are asynchronous.
- Results are workspace-scoped.
- MCP mutations require OAuth-backed authorization.
- Agents should respect workspace automations and bookkeeping controls rather than treating outputs as raw OCR data.
